Basic spotter training
The Indianapolis NWS will be conducting "spotter talks", also known as basic spotter training, at various sites in the area. Several sessions have been scheduled already and are being announced on various nets and web sites. The official list of spotter talks will be maintained by the NWS staff and can be found here.
Benton County Supercell - June 14, 2010

On-line weather training

The modules cover all types of weather topics and are designed to help educators, emergency managers, or anyone interested in learning about weather and weather safety.

2010 Central Indiana Severe Weather Symposium
Submitted by siteadmin on December 19, 2009 - 11:24am.March of 2010 will bring the next installment of the biyearly Central Indiana Severe Weather Symposium, an all day session geared toward providing more advanced information for spotters and weather enthusiasts.
The date for the 2010 symposium is March 13, 2010. The location will be the Valle Vista Conference Center in Greenwood.
UPDATE 03-Mar-2010: SPACE IS LIMITED! Registrations MUST be received by Thursday, March 11, 2010. Due to contractual obligations, no walk-in registration will be available.

2008 brings the next installment of the Central Indiana Severe Weather Symposium, an all day session geared towards providing more advanced information for severe weather spotters.
The 2008 symposium will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2008, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Valle Vista Conference Center, 755 E. Main St., Greenwood, Indiana, and is co-sponsored by the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Service Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis NWS office has produced a spotter training video that you can view online. It's about 32 minutes long and covers many of the concepts presented in their live spotter talks. Take a look!

Attached are spotter guides in PDF format. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these files. These guides were produced by the National Weather Service and are getting a bit dated, but they still contain a wealth of information for the beginning and advanced severe weather spotter.
